4-year-old (M-F)

Tuesday, September 2, 2008 through Friday, May 22, 2009

Children must be 4 years of age by October 16th and fully potty-trained. The staff-child ratio is 1:8.

The four-year-old program includes activities which will prepare children in many areas for Kindergarten. The currciculum used re-inforces phonics, counting, number writng as well as correct letter formation. The class curriculum is:

ABC-123:
Phonics, counting and number writing activities reinforce what children learn in the classroom. The number pages introduce concepts and the formation. Children enjoy counting and writing the familiar objects for each number. The phonics-based reading readiness pages are full of carefully sequenced activities in recognition, sound and foundation of vowels (long & short), consonants, consonant-blends and one-syllable words with one or two vowels.

Writing with Phonics:
Correlates basic phonic sounds to help children learn phonics as they practice correct writing formation. Children are challenged as they are learning new words to read.

Alphabet Stories:
Puppet and Picture Stories That Teach Letter Recognition and Sounds
Activities that will introduce a very meaningful learning experience using stories, songs and cooking projects. These activities are presented in a very effective manner that's stimulating and aids the different learning styles.

The Complete Letter Book
Multi-sensory Activities for Teaching Sounds and Letters
Activities give exposure to the various sense modalities by fusing the letter sounds to taste, smell, sight and touch. This method allows the child to discover and interact with letter sounds in ways most likely to assure internalization. The material is stimulating and aids to the different learning styles.

Science
Science is an intricate part of the 4-year Old Class's monthly schedule.
They learn: -Observing what is happening
-Predicting what might happen
-Testing predictions under controlled conditions
-Making sense of observations
Children learn best and understand ideas better if they are able to investigate in a hands-on environment. During science children will see and touch what they are investigating. Hands-on activities will help children to think critically and gain confidence in their own ability to solve problems. Children will use activities to explore, discover and share observations.

Literature
Literature is taught weekly along with the letter of the week to help with story recall, sequencing, fact and fantasy
