Enhanced 4-year-old (M-F)
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 through Friday, May 20, 2011
Children must be 4 years of age by August 31st and fully potty-trained. The staff-child ratio is 1:8.
The Enhanced class follows the same scope and sequence as the other four-year-old classes but at a much more rapid pace. There is a short evaluation to determine if a child is ready for the class. Fine motor skills need to be more developed and the child is required to have a good understanding of upper & lower case letters as well as the sounds of the letters, number concepts and beginning to understand sequencing and patterns. The child needs to also demonstrate more independence and problem-solving skills. ABC-123: Phonics, counting and number writing activities reinforce what children learn in the classroom. The number pages introduce concepts and the formation. Children enjoy counting and writing the familiar objects for each number. The phonics-based reading readiness pages are full of carefully sequenced activities in recognition, sound and foundation of vowels (long & short), consonants, consonant-blends and one-syllable words with one or two vowels.
Writing with Phonics K5 As the vowels, consonants, consonant-vowel blends, one-vowel words, and later two-vowel words are introduced during phonics, the children will also learn how to write them. Letters and Sounds K Kindergarten level of varied activities with vowels, consonant sounds, blends, one- and two-vowel words, words with special sounds and sentence comprehension. Number Skills K (Arithmetic) This book reinforces number concepts and formation through 100, simple addition and subtraction combinations, telling time, number sequences, number words and working with money. Science Science is an intricate part of the 4-year Old Class's monthly schedule. They learn: -Observing what is happening -Predicting what might happen -Testing predictions under controlled conditions -Making sense of observations Children learn best and understand ideas better if they are able to investigate in a hands-on environment. During science children will see and touch what they are investigating. Hands-on activities will help children to think critically and gain confidence in their own ability to solve problems. Children will use activities to explore, discover and share observations. Literature Literature is taught weekly along with the letter of the week to help with story recall, sequencing, fact and fantasy. *Please note that other supplemental teaching materials will be used in the classroom to introduce history, the arts, health, and safety awareness.
